Gol Transportes Aéreos, known on the market simply as "GOL", is the first Brazilian airline to operate with the low-cost model. The airline was founded in 2000 and began its operations on January 15, 2001, its corporate headquarters is located in São Paulo, Brazil. Its main hubs are located on the international airports of São Paulo-Congonhas, Rio de Janeiro-Galeão and Brasília. On March 28, 2007 GOL purchased part of the assets of VARIG Linhas Aéreas, the Brazilian historical airline. GOL operates domestic passenger flights on a wide network of destinations, as well as international flights to countries in Central and South America. Its frequent flyer program is Smiles.
