easyJet Airline Company Limited is a British low cost airline founded in October 1995. Its base is easyLand, London Luton Airport. It began operating in November 1995 with its first two airplanes in leasing, serving the London-Luton to Glasgow and Edinburgh route. easyJet grew quickly: in March 1998 it bought 40% of TEA Switzerland airline, rebaptising it subsequently easyJet Switzerland, while in 2002 it bought airline Go Fly. easyJet is currently the third largest low cost airline in the world for number of passengers carried, preceded only by American Southwest Airlines and the Irish Ryanair. Until September 2003 easyJet operated with Boeing 737s, but at the end of 2002, the company tended towards using Airbus airplanes, ordering 120 A319s, which first models were delivered in the autumn of 2003. The airline operates flights to a large number of destinations in Europe, Asia and North Africa, it has carried 55,47 million passengers in 2011.
